The series “GUTS” delves into the world of the machine. It explores the void spaces created within, between and around our mechanical counterparts and the strong - sometimes conflicting - emotions that they evoke. Each work in “GUTS” acts as a chapter in my evolving understanding of this theme.

 

This series emerged from my growing fascination with the inner-workings of heavy machinery - the “guts” (pipes, gears and steel forms). My initial interest concerned their form and structure, however this evolved to include and investigate the negative spaces they create. Every alcove created between a machine’s various forms holds a unique set of contradictions - darkness and light, danger and safety, chaos and order. In this series, I seek to identify, sharpen and evoke these emotionally relevant dualities.
