Greenway Series

This subject of this series is the Minneapolis Greenway, a 5.5-mile bike path that runs East-West through the center of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The path’s original purpose as an urban train track gives it a unique form. Much of the path is submerged below street-level, which necessitates the use of countless street bridges to the traverse the space above the path. What results is a unique urban rhythm between pedestrians below and the repeating bridges above.

I wanted the Greenway Series to reflect the repetition, rhythm and trance I find while commuting on the Minneapolis Greenway.

When hung side by side, the drawings mimic the path’s rhythmic properties. value changes only emerge through the repetition of straight lines, and each drawing’s elongated composition reflects the formal properties of their subject matter.
